I study Renaissance social and political thought with a particular emphasis on early modern Spain. I am interested in the intellectual constitution of the Baroque, and, within the Hispanic Baroque Project, keen to investigate and compare metropolitan and American perceptions and discourses. The particular focus would be on the conceptual and rhetorical strategies with which Baroque authors in Spain and the Americas respond to issues of moral and intellectual complexity. This line of investigation may contribute to our knowledge of baroque patterns of complex thought.
